The Challenge:

To remain at the forefront of a highly competitive market, Maritimo have become adept at scaling up or down based on demand. Supporting these agile requirements using a traditional on-premises IT model however had proved a challenge, and the business faced a large CAPEX investment at a time of market uncertainty.

Exacerbating this, the business faced challenges due to the age of its existing IT infrastructure and the reliability issues which had begun to impact operations causing a number of significant outages. Faced with these difficulties, and combined with the knowledge that investment was required, Maritimo approached Ordyss for assistance.

The Solution:

Ordyss has a long standing partnership with Maritimo and has been providing IT managed services and executive consultancy to the business for more than a decade. Proactive systems monitoring & incident management being undertaken as part of the managed service had over time identified signs of pending systems failure.

Rather than undertaking a legacy upgrade or costly replacement of existing systems, Ordyss submitted recommendations to migrate Maritimo to a cloud-hosted VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure) solution alongside Microsoft Office 365, with ongoing IT support provided on a simple per user, per month, OPEX billing model.

Following an extensive initial proof-of-concept and discussions with the business, the recommendations were approved and the solution was designed and implemented by Ordyss in the ensuing months.

The Benefits:

Upfront financial saving – By avoiding the need to refresh legacy infrastructure, implementation of Ordyss’ recommendations saved Maritimo a CapEx spend of ~$50,000.

Reduced support costs – Further, through reliability improvements achieved as a result of the project, Ordyss was able to reduce ongoing support costs by an impressive 57%.

Operational efficiencies – In the six months prior to implementation, Maritimo had suffered 6 major business interruptions as a result of systems failures. In the six months following implementation, there were zero, further validating the project’s success. It is this level of reliability that continues to support the high-availability and systems performance aims of the business today.

Enhanced Business Continuity – Today, Maritimo operates safe in the knowledge that business-critical systems and data can be accessed from anywhere, anytime, with a fully redundant, highly secure cloud-first environment, supported by enterprise grade back-ups and infrastructure.

Flexibility and scalability – With its cloud-based solution, Maritimo can readily scale operations up or down as needed throughout the year, with confidence. The solution is based on a simple per user, per month cost, and is supported by Ordyss as part of a flexible Managed Services agreement.

What the Client Says:

“The financial savings, both upfront and ongoing, realised from implementation of this project make for a compelling business case. The business continuity benefits and the improved operational efficiencies however can’t be overlooked and I think the stats speak for themselves.

The scalability offered by this solution will also be increasingly important to Maritimo as we continue to expand our operations, and I consider the project a most worthwhile investment in our future.”
